The Native American would pawn his jewelry for immediate cash. The shop would hold it and charge interest until he could reclaim it. Dead pawn are the pieces that were never retrieved. Old Pawn Jewelry typically dates from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Most of the early pieces are not signed because it wasn’t the Native American tradition to sign the pieces they crafted. Also, the turquoise in old pawn is turquoise that you can’t get anymore because many of the mines have closed. Vintage 925 Native, Santo Domingo Battery Bird, Thunderbird Turquoise Necklace
WONDERFUL antique/vintage Santo Domingo and southwestern artisan sterling silver turquoise, spiny oyster, pen shell, mother of pearl, catlinite, plastics, etc. Beaded battery bird, thunderbird necklace. This delightful necklace is 18 5/8 long and weighs 75.8 grams. It features a very old 1930’s to 1940’s authentic Santo Domingo hand crafted sterling silver, turquoise, catlinite, battery parts/plastics, etc. Thunderbird pendant that measures 3 3/8″ long by 1 3/4″ wide. This “battery” bird/thunderbird is in very good condition with no damage other than, perhaps, very minor, age appropriate surface wear. It is a uniquely large example of these wonderful Santo Domingo thunderbirds and is very striking with the black, bright orange, turquoise and red catlinite sections that make up this fabulous pendant. The necklace portion was recently crafted specifically for this bird and is strung on strong jeweler’s flex wire with genuine turquoise, deep red, orange and purple spiny oyster, golden-white, lustrous mother of pearl, large pen shell and Native American sterling silver corrugated bench beads. It is finished with a lovely, oxidized sterling silver floral and feather hook and eye clasp. The necklace was crafted in Santo Domingo style with large, fine heishi beads. It makes for a uniquely striking necklace featuring a very collectible, authentic Santo Domingo crafted battery bird. This necklace is MUCH more lovely in reality than it appears in my photos. The hand-crafted wire bail on the pendant has been tested as sterling silver, as have the bench beads and clasp. The gemstone beads have been verified by a certified gemologist. Vintage Navajo 925 Sterling Silver & Rhodocrosite Cuff Bracelet
YEAR: likely the early 1980’s. ARTIST: Rose and Allen Joeboy, Navajo 1. WEIGHT: 26.4 grams. This beautiful, one of a kind, piece of Navajo artwork features a large oval Rhodocrosite cabochon. This stone is said to be the “stone of love and balance”, and is connected to the heart, bringing one emotional peace. Being a cuff bracelet, this is adjustable to fit any size wrist. Stamped “STERLING” on the back, alongside the artist mark of Rose and Allen Joeboy, as seen in the photos. This bracelet it is in excellent condition and has been cleaned to the best of my ability.

Vintage Earl Plummer Navajo Sterling Silver Multicolored Stones Bracelet / Nice
Here is a real sparkling beauty of a Navajo sterling silver multicolored stone bracelet by famed Navajo artist Earl Plummer. It is signed by him on the interior clasp. It appears in remarkable condition with no real damage to the silver or the stones. It does have expected typical light use small scratches from use and polishing but no dents, breaks, or repairs. Just over 1/4 inches wide and about 6 3/8 inches long. It has a nice secure latch with a safety catch chain. It weighs 25.1 grams. I don’t know all the stones but there are lapis, coral, turquoise, and other semi-precious stones also. A very nice delicate lovely design from a true craftsman.
