Vintage Sterling Turquoise Ring Navajo Native American Old Pawn Signed Ramona
99 TRIPLE SHANK BEAR FOOT. The world has had a fascination for turquoise for over 7000 years. The oldest known example of any jewelry was a carved turquoise and gold bracelet found on the mummy of an Egyptian queen. In the American Southwest, Native Americans have mined turquoise since prehistoric times. Many legends surround turquoise, it is believed to bring good fortune and health. While turquoise was once used as currency in the American Southwest, it has been treasured as an adornment throughout the centuries worldwide. The evolution of turquoise jewelry from its appeal as southwestern, Native American or tourist jewelry, to one of the most coveted gems set in designer jewelry worldwide. Coveted, that is, only if you are talking about true, genuine turquoise. And so our turquoise love story continues. While the demand for turquoise has increased dramatically, the supply of genuine turquoise is limited. Turquoise jewelry has been worn for both fashion and cultural significance throughout history. Many American Indian tribes believe the stone harbors mystical powers. According to some beliefs, turquoise can keep bad spirits away and some believe it can ward off bad spirits, encourage communication, creativity and spiritual bonding. Southwestern Native American Indian turquoise Sterling silver naja Navajo pearls bead necklace , unmarked but most likely Navajo. This classic Navajo bead necklace and naja pendant was crafted with bench-made beads of the same size for an uniform look. This is an older piece with 1/4 handmade beads. The naja is approximately 3 9/16″ tall by 3 1/8″ wide, and has 6 shiny turquoise stones adorned with leaves and stamped raindrops. The bead necklace is approximately 15 1/2 long from hook to eye, and the piece weighs a total of 101 grams! Note: A couple of the stones have a fissure that looks natural, but we are not sure. Rare Vintage Kirk Smith Turquoise Cluster Navajo Cuff Sterling Silver Bracelet
VINTAGE KIRK SMITH TURQUOISE CLUSTER NAVAJO CUFF. NATIVE AMERICAN HAND MADE. A vintage handcrafted sterling silver turquoise cluster cuff bracelet by famed (now deceased) Navajo Silversmith, Kirk Smith. This piece is signed by the artisan and I’m told it dates to his work in the 1980s. It comes with a certificate of authenticity and a gift box. Kirk Smith’s jewelry is highly sought after, quite collectible and getting more and more rare. Kirk’s life was tragically cut short in 2012 at the age of 55 by a drunk driver. Since then, his jewelry has increased in price and value, especially for discerning collectors. Kirk worked and learned from another acclaimed artist and Navajo silversmith, Harry Morgan (who was also his brother-in-law). Smith became known for his classic “revivalist” Navajo design where the pawn finish mimics the appearance and patina of naturally-aged sterling silver. Using heavy sterling silver, detailed craftsmanship and beautiful, high quality stones, Smith’s pieces won many awards through his career. This bracelet’s measurements are. Widest point across = 2.5. Tallest point high = 1 3/4. Depth = 1 3/4. Inside measurement = 5/38″ around’ 1 1/8″ gap opening. Total Weight: 104 grams. Note: May be challenging to resize this cuff because the silver is so heavy. My wrist measures 6 1/2 around and it fits fine. All of my items come from a smoke and pet-free home and from someone who takes great care ad pride with all of my items. I only sell items from my personal collections. While you’re here, please check out my.
