Estate Vintage Sterling Silver White Buffalo Turquoise Ring Men’s Signed Band

The trade name White Buffalo is used to identify the stone from the Tonopah, Nevada mine owned by the Otteson family. The white stone is surrounded by black and brown flint-like chert (an opaque variety of quartz) which creates beautiful patterns, and sometimes in rare pieces, a spider-web matrix. The demand for White Turquoise has come to be fairly recently. Turquoise Miners of the past hunted for deep rich blues and greens in Turquoise and did not give white or light colored material any consideration. There could be a considerable amount of what we now consider White Turquoise in Arizona and Nevada that is hard, beautiful and of high quality, time will tell. There is now a market for it and minors will not discard it in the future! Most of this “White Turquoise” is actually one of two substances called Howlite and Magnasite. The rare White Turquoise Jewelry is made with actual White Turquoise from the Dry Creek or Sacred Buffalo mine, the Tortoise Turquoise mine, or the Peacock Turquoise mine. On rare occasion White Turquoise jewelry is made with Chalcociderite (a sister mineral to Turquoise) from the Badger Mine, New Landers Mine, Tortoise Mine, Peacock Mine, Prince Mine, Colorback Mine or one of the other Chalcociderite producing Turquoise mines in Nevada, USA. The mine produced some of the largest nuggets of turquoise ever discovered. Almost all the turquoise produced is of the spider web type, with the matrix varying from golden brown to black. The colors grade from very light blue to very dark blue, some with interesting tints of green. As with most mines, Number 8 turquoise has certain characteristic colors and matrix patterns that are very easily identified. Today, the darker shades of blue Number 8 turquoise are quite rare and highly valued by collectors. I BELIEVE IT TO BE FROM THE 1960’S OR 70’S. THE CUFF MEASURES APPROX. EACH STONE MEASURES (FROM LEFT LOOKING AT THE CUFF – TO RIGHT), 1 1/4″ BY A LITTLE OVER 1/2″, 1 1/8TH BY 3/4″, AND 1 1/8TH BY 3/4″. There is a hairline crack in the stone but its not noticeable unless your very closeup. The stone isnt loose in any way. Please see last photo. The signature is almost completely worn of but you can see the first letter is J and followed by what may be a letter M. Its too faded to get a good photo of it. Inside including opening measures approximately 7, and is slightly adjustable. A little over 2 3/8. Width in front measures approximately 2. Turquoise measures approximately 40mm X 29mm.
