Handmade sterling silver concho belt with Natural Turquoise Mt. Each concho features detailed stamped designs and is affixed to leather belt. Artist Name: Harry Morgan (Navajo). Yes, see hallmark on image. Size: Buckle is 3×3 inches, each concho is 3×3.5 inches, each turquoise cabochon is about 1/2 inch in diameter. Weight: One pound 13 ounces. Harry Morgan lived near Gallup, New Mexico, where he grew up, and passed on in spring, 2007. He was an incredible fifth generation silversmith. He began making jewelry at the age of 7. He won awards at nearly every major Indian art show. He mentored many Navajo silversmiths in the Gallup, New Mexico area, including Kirk Smith, his sons: Greg Pat, Kelly Morgan, Russell Morgan, Jacob D. Morgan, and Clay Morgan, his ex-wife Betty Joe, as well as many others. The boldness of the silver is what’s beautiful. You don’t want to over decorate the silver. Native American Navajo HUGE Sterling Silver & Turquoise Conchos on Original Belt. 1 Large Sterling Silver Buckle measures 3 5/8” wide by 2 7/8” height. 5 Large Sterling Silver Conchos measures 3 3/8” wide by 2 5/8” height. 1 Original leather belt measuring 41” end to end, end to center of holes 31”. Measurement with buckle another 2 1/2”. The 6 Conchos are a classic Navajo design. The outside border is more detailed, wonderful craftsmanship, unique. I have search but can not find another just like it. Bright Blue Turquoise cabochons measure approx. 1/4′ by 1/4” are inset in the center of the Sterling Concho. The Brown belt is original with brass/copper loops attached to the Conchos. “The Conchos are backed by custom cut leather pads which highlights the silverware & protects the edge of the silver from bumping, wear & bending”. The Conchos can be slid along the leather as desired position them for your waist size. You can remove the buckle & the Conchos & place them on other belt. The length can be cut to fit smaller person. The leather belt is punched with 10 holes. Weight of buckle is 49.6 grams , 5 conchos with leather pad, 50.3, 48.4, 46.8, 50.6, 46.5 grams. Stamped Sterling on Buckle. Back of conch covered by leather, darkened with age, do not know if they have stamp marks. Sterling Concho’s in very good condition. Minimal scratch marks consistent with age. Turquoise cabochons 3 have small chips. Condition of belt shows some signs of age and wear however still in good wearable condition. Vintage Fred Peshlakai Navajo Turquoise & Sterling Silver Concho Belt Signed

The book written by Steven Curtis titled, Navajo Silversmith Fred Peshlakai, His Life & Art, has featured this concho belt on the front cover of his book. At one point in his career he opened a shop in Los Angeles and worked there for 20 years. Fred Peshlakai taught Kenneth Begay jewelry making. Peshlakais silver work, designs and his exceptional turquoise stones of the highest quality brought him to the forefront of becoming a great and revered Navajo silversmith. His innovative designs are sought after by collectors all over the world. There are bracelets but belts are very hard to come by and if you are a collector, this would be a good opportunity to have a Fred Peshlakai belt added to your fine collection. This belt is crafted like a fine piece of jewelry. The belt is not heavy or overpowering. It has the character of a first phase with its cut out center slots, but his style is so innovative that the silver work has a character all its own. The turquoise stones are so penetrating especially against the patina of the sterling silver. This is a treasure of fine ingenuity with a subtle smooth design and to be worn as a piece of fine jewelry. The weight of the belt is: 367 grams/12.94 ounces. The buckle is: 3 1/8 inches x 2 6/8 inches. There are 8 conchos (not including the buckle) and the sizes are: 2 15/16 inches x 2 5/8 inches. The belt including the strap is: 33 inches long. Also, on the back of each concho is a 1 inch sterling silver bar for sliding the strap through. Please Note: I have documentation from the very prominent Native American Trading Company validating in writing the authenticity of this belt made by Fred Peshlakai and of course, the above mentioned book. This is a beautiful sterling silver and Kingman turquoise concho belt handcrafted by Tommy Moore, Navajo artist. It has a buckle measureing approximately 2 3/4″ by 2 5/16″ and ten conchos measureing approximately 2 1/4″ by 1 13/16″. Navajo Sterling Silver Traditional Revival Style Concho Belt. 6 Conchos + 5 Butterflies + 1 Belt Buckle. 2.5″ X 2.15″. 2.1″ X 1.2″. 3.1″ X 2.5″. Brown Leather Belt is 35.5″ long and has several holes punched in it from about 30″ to 34. It may be modified to accommodate a smaller waist of down to about 25 without removing a Concha. 279.0 grams = 8.97 Troy ounces Total Weight. Metal weight is about 7+ Troy ounces. The Harry Morgan Traditional Revival Concho Belt. When you combine the dramatic stamp, repousse, and design work of Harry Morgan in a large format like this, the effect is quite amazing. It is in Very Good condition and there are no issues in the Sterling Silver to report on. The Belt is a bit worn and you may choose to replace it with a slightly wider one that would hold the conchos more tightly. The reverse of the buckle is stamp signed with the correct H. MORGAN Hallmark as you can see in the pictures. It is Not stamped “Sterling”, but it is guaranteed to be Sterling Silver and authentic. I’ve seen and own quite a few Morgan buckles and this Concho Belt seems to have most of the elements that collectors of Harry Morgan’s jewelry want. The wonderful “Revival” design that Morgan introduced to contemporary style and the masterful stamp work that is both crisp and sublime. This is a truly remarkable Navajo Sterling Silver Concho Belt made by an artist that has excited the Indian Jewelry community for years. Harry Morgan passed away in 2007. As you may know, his stamp work is in demand. The the energy, skill, and precision needed to create a successful piece of jewelry is substantial. Harry Morgan was a master of this and is primarily responsible for the “Classic Revival Style” in Navajo silver work. He has many imitators and followers… But he remains the “Best” of them! There was some additional notoriety involved for him when his work was featured in the Robert Redford movie “The Horse Whisperers”. He has won many awards since and his work is always met with great enthusiasm by discriminating collectors. His work is in the collection of The Peabody Museum at Harvard University and also in many private collections. He is referenced in the major Native American Jewelry books including “American Indian Jewelry I” by Gregory Schaaf p.
