Southwestern Native American Turquoise Stamped Sterling Silver Concho Belt

Outstanding Vintage Southwestern Native American Indian turquoise stamped, repousse Sterling silver concho belt, unmarked, but most likely Navajo. Exceptional Native American motif pattern hand-stamped on heavy gauge conchos adorned with large, high gade stones, set in smooth bezels in the center of the pieces. Dark patina left untouched. There are 7 conchos plus a square concho-buckle with repousse work on the corners, and a large turquoise stone in the center surrounded by smaller stones on the sides, top, and bottom. Gorgeous stones, nicely polished, with some beautiful natural inclusions- no cracks or chips. The buckle is just over 3 3/8″ wide by 2 9/16″ tall. The swivel keeper fits the 1 1/2 best strap nicely. The belt does not have a size stamp, but it measures 25″ from hook to first hole, and 30 1/2″ to the last hole, with 4 holes in between. Each concho is about 3 1/8″ wide (across) by 2 1/4″ tall. This piece weighs a hefty 475 grams! The strap is vintage but still in good shape, with some scratches near the holes and small marks on the leather between the conchos. Note: One concho has a small silver deposit on it, and another has a 1/2 scratch, most likely unnoticeable when worn. Thank you for supporting authentic Native American art. Pink Coral, Turquoise, Red Coral, Lapis Lazuli, Spiny Oyster, Malachite, Amethyst, and Mother of Pearl. 6 Conchos + 7 Butterflies + 1 Belt Buckle. 2.0″ X 1.65″. 2.4″ X 2.0″. Tan Leather Belt is 38.5″ long and has several holes punched in it from about 28.5″ to 32. It may be modified to accommodate a larger waist of up to about 35 without replacing the Leather Strap. 234.0 grams = 7.52 Troy ounces Total Weight. Metal weight is about 6+ Troy ounces. The Harry Morgan Traditional Revival Concho Belt with 69 Gemstones. When you combine the “Classic Revival” stamping, repousse, 69 Gemstones, and famous “Old Pawn” finish of Harry Morgan, it pretty much has everything you might want in an old Harry Morgan Concho Belt. It is in Very Good condition and there are no issues in the Sterling Silver to report on. The Belt is representative of the work of a master in the history of Native Jewelry. The reverse of the buckle is stamp signed with the correct H. MORGAN Hallmark as you can see in the pictures. It is also stamped “Sterling”, and it is guaranteed to be Sterling Silver and authentic. I’ve seen and own quite a few Morgan buckles and this Concho Belt seems to have most of the elements that collectors of Harry Morgan’s jewelry want. The wonderful “Revival” design that Morgan introduced to contemporary style and the masterful stamp work that is both crisp and sublime. This is a truly remarkable Navajo Sterling Silver Concho Belt made by an artist that has excited the Indian Jewelry community for years. Harry Morgan passed away in 2007. As you may know, his stamp work is in demand. The the energy, skill, and precision needed to create a successful piece of jewelry is substantial. Harry Morgan was a master of this and is primarily responsible for the “Classic Revival Style” in Navajo silver work. He has many imitators and followers… But he remains the “Best” of them! There was some additional notoriety involved for him when his work was featured in the Robert Redford movie “The Horse Whisperers”. He has won many awards since and his work is always met with great enthusiasm by discriminating collectors. His work is in the collection of The Peabody Museum at Harvard University and also in many private collections.
