This is an amazing vintage Navajo Native American jewelry silver ring. This piece contains wonderful, blue turquoise inlay. The ring consists of very thick silver and measures to be a size 11 The ring face measures around 1x17mm Cir. Sturdy 11.8 grams. Chip inlay jewelry, characterized by crushed turquoise and other stones set in resin and polished smooth, is largely attributed to Navajo silversmith Tommy Singer, who popularized the technique in the 1970s. While other Navajo artists and the Zuni tribe also utilize inlay techniques, Singer’s chip inlay method is widely recognized and has become a staple in Navajo jewelry making. The process involves creating cavities in the silver piece, filling them with the crushed stone and resin mixture, and then polishing the surface to create a smooth, flat inlay.

Sleeping Beauty was originally discovered during the Anasazi times by Native Americans. At the time, turquoise was mined with hand tools. Sleeping Beauty was re-discovered by accident in the 1900s when the mine was opened in the pursuit of copper. The sleeping beauty mine is located in Globe Arizona. It is named after the mountain ranges where it is located. The mountain range where it is located, from a distance, resembles a woman that is sleeping with her arms crossed. Hence the name Sleeping Beauty. In 2012, the Sleeping Beauty mine closed it’s turquoise mining operations but not because the mine was spent. The new owner decided to not pursue the turquoise mining operation and instead focus solely on copper. The extremely large copper deposits surrounding the sleeping beauty mine is what gives the stones their very vibrant blue color.

I received my Bachelors of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Classical Guitar Performance from Northern Arizona University in 2000. I continued working at NAU then decided to recommence my education and began taking classes for my second degree. I received my second Bachelors in Fine Arts with an emphasis on Metalsmithing in spring of 2012. My designs come from interpretation of the world around me. I continue to challenge my abilities with metal by discovering new ways to create a piece that is uncomplicated and multifaceted. This approach allows me to maintain the traditional styles of my Navajo heritage along with a more contemporary twist to my finished wearable work. I enjoy the visual effects of coupling hand cut gemstones and minerals with my metal designs. I utilize hand selected raw materials and shape them to perfectly fit each piece. This allows me creative freedoms to design forms from beginning to end. While I utilize a variety of materials and processes in each piece, my methodology remains consistent. My intent is to bring into fruition my personal designs with an underlying theme of traditional yet contemporary Navajo Jewelry.
