This is a fabulous Old Pawn vintage Navajo sterling silver Squash Blossom necklace featuring GORGEOUS deep blue-green Royston turquoise! Royston turquoise is known for its beautiful deep green to rich light blue colors. These unique color ranges are what make this stone so special. Royston stones are often two-tone, displaying both dark and light green and sometimes blue. Royston has a heavy matrix ranging from dark brown to gold in color. This matrix makes for beautiful combinations with the color variations of the stone. Royston turquoise is considered very collectible and a good investment. The Royston turquoise in this magnificent old Squash Blossom are a deep, deep blue-green with a lovely golden brown matrix traipsing through it! There’s a few matrix crazings, which are a natural occurrence in the making of the turquoise, and one old superficial hairline crack (2nd stone down from the clasp, on right in photos) that I only noticed under my jeweler’s loupe. All stones are super secure, however, and BEAUTIFUL! Each turquoise stone is set in a smooth bezel and wrapped with a hand-twisted silver wire rope and a silver rim. The side blossoms have short, fluted silver petals hanging beneath the settings, while the naja is comprised of back-to-back settings mounted on a double shank of flat silver bands that have been hand wrought into the classic crescent shape. The handmade bench beads are strung, along with the naja & side blossoms, on a sturdy cabled wire that fastens with a traditional hook-and-eye clasp. This is a rustic-bordering-on-“primitive” looking piece with simple, hand wrought silver work that highlights the lovely dark stones! What a great addition for ANY collection! Unsigned and unmarked, which is not unusual for these vintage pieces; tested positive for sterling silver. This is a beautiful find in wonderful condition! Way too many quality antique and vintage jewelry have been going into the melting pots in recent years. By definition, this is not going to expand the availability of good pieces, so this piece will only gain in monetary value over the years! Enlarged photos will exaggerate surface marks and hairline cracks. Please do not confuse reflections in photos with damage. THIS PIECE HAS NOT BEEN CLEANED IN ORDER TO PRESERVE THE WARM RICH PATINA! A WONDERFUL LIVING PIECE OF NATIVE AMERICAN HISTORY! VERY VINTAGE, BEEN LOVED, BEEN WORN, BEEN AROUND! Native Americans associate turquoise with the blue sky and the green earth. It is known as the Travelers Stone and is prized by those who travel by land. They believed that wearing turquoise resulted in happiness and security. Turquoise helps to ground the spirit while keeping its connection to the infinite open. Turquoise allows the energy path to remain clear. In fact, many First Nation people hold the belief that by wearing turquoise the human mind becomes one with the universe.
