HUGE LONG Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Morenci Turquoise Ring Stunning Detail

This listing features a vintage Navajo ring, handcrafted from Sterling Silver and Natural Turquoise. NOTE: Make sure to view all 19 photos. Last 3 photos show ring being worn on a medium/large hand. Handcrafted in the later mid century by Melvin Thompson, this ring features a classic Navajo design at a high level of craftsmanship. The ring features a 2″ long by 1″ wide face adorned with Morneci Turquoise. The stones portray green and blue color hues with natural matrixes and shiny specks of gold pyrite. The stones are in excellent condition and rest securely in their bezels over a thick bed of silver. Twisted rope surrounds the stones followed by intricate silver works including detailed leaf appliqués, droplets, silver curls, and a flower. The ring is thick, sturdy, and in excellent vintage condition. The back of the ring has a double fused shank that splits before meeting the back of the face. It’s a solid band, in perfect round shape. A signature is stamped on one end in the form of initials reading MT for Navajo Artist Melvin Thompson. There is no sterling stamp which is common for the era however, the silver has been tested and proves to be sterling. Add this statement piece to your collection of Native American jewelry, wear with pride, and enjoy before handing it down in the future. Size – Sits between a 10.5 and 10.75 on a ring mandrel. Weight – 15.5 Grams. Ring Face Measurements – The ring face measures just a hair under 2″ long by just under 1″ wide. Stone Measurements – The stones measure 11/16″ by 5/16″ and 9/16″ by 1/4″. Shank Measurements – At bottom center the double shank measures 3/16″ wide and the split shank has a spread of 1/2″ wide when meeting the back of the ring. Vintage Navajo Native American Sterling Silver Morenci Turquoise Pin / Pendant

On offer is an authentic vintage NAVAJO hand wrought. 925 sterling silver pin/pendant adorned with a large beautiful southwestern sky blue hand cut and polished gem quality turquoise stone that is typical of the Morenci, Arizona mine region. This pin/pendant is not hallmarked which was quite common in the earlier Native American silver work prior to the 1970’s. We believe this piece was created circa 1960 or perhaps earlier. This stunning turquoise pin/pendant was skillfully crafted with attention to detail, and is in very good vintage condition (see ALL photos for an accurate detailed depiction). The pin back is in good working order. The hand cut and polished southwestern sky blue cabochon turquoise stone has the pyrite inclusions and black matrix that are characteristic of Morenci material. It is in very good condition with no chips or cracks and is firmly set in a plain silver bezel. Overall, this pin/pendant measures approx. 1 1/2″ long x 1 3/16″ at widest. The stone measures approx. 1 1/8″ long x 13/16″ at widest. The pin/pendant weighs 15.7 grams. 925 sterling silver and southwestern sky blue Morenci turquoise pin/pendant would make an outstanding addition to any Twentieth Century Native American Silver and Stone Jewelry, American Turquoise or Historic Cultural Arts and Crafts collection. We have been involved in the design and creation of contemporary jewelry at the undergraduate and postgraduate level since 1967. This listing features a large vintage Navajo ring, handcrafted with Sterling Silver, Gem Grade Morenci Turquoise, and Mediterranean Coral. Size – 8.5. Weight – 9 Grams. Ring Face Measurements – The ring face measures just a hair under 1-1/2″ long by 7/8″ wide. Stone Measurements – The turquoise stone measures just under 3/4″ long by 1/4″ wide and sits on top of the ring face 1/4 high. The coral measures 5/16″ long by 1/8″ wide. Signed by Artist – YES, signed with initials MJ for an unknown Navajo Artist. The ring could possibly be Hopi as well and made by Marshall Jenkins. His mark is identical to the stamped initials. Stamped Sterling – YES, tested and verified. Mid too Later-Mid Century, 1970’s +. Condition – Preowned, in excellent vintage condition with original stones and a naturally aged dark patina, ready to wear or display. Expertly handcrafted in the mid century, this ring is a beautiful example of classic Navajo work. It features a long ring face boasting a gem grade Morenci stone along with a single red coral. The Morenci stone portrays a rich blue hue with dark matrixes and specks of shimmery pyrite. Each stone rests securely in a sawtooth bezel over a hearty bed of silver while being surrounded by intricate silver works of silver droplets and curling silver rods. The dark oxidization below the stones intensifies their color while also creating depth and dimension to the ring. The back of the ring has a fused double shank that splits at the sides and continues around the edge, thus creating the saddle design. It’s a very sturdy band and in perfect round wearable shape. A sterling stamp is present as well as the Artist’s initials. This vintage Navajo ring will make a great addition to any fine collection of Native American jewelry. The bracelet was crafted from Sterling Silver, Morenci Turquoise, Black Onyx, Mediterranean Coral, and Mother of Pearl. Weight – 28 Grams. Inner Circumference, End To End – 5-1/8. Gap – 1-1/16 (NOT adjustable). Total Size Of Cuff – 6-3/16″ Should fit a wrist between 5-7/8″ and 6-1/8 comfortably. Shank Measurements – The width of the cuff measures just under 1/2″ (7/16″) all the way around. The cuff has a depth/thickness of over 1/16. It’s a thick and sturdy shank. The shank and stones sit 1/4 high on the wrist. Inlay Details & Measurements – There are a total of 20 turquoise inlays, with two rows of 8 each at the center and 2 larger inlays on each end. Stone(s) have been tested and guaranteed using a professional Presidium Duo refractive, heat, and hardness tester. Stone cuts : Carved and polished cabochon. Handmade in the 1950s by a talented Native American silversmith. 900 sterling silver, also known as coin silver, a popular purity of silver at this time. Beautiful Morenci turquoise stone rests in a bezel setting. A ribbon twist design surrounds the stone. Split shoulders taper into the smooth, polished band for secure wear. Damage : Age appropriate wear. Tarnish on the sterling silver gives the piece an antique quality we believe is rather lovely. The price has been reduced to reflect this. Antique Native American jewelry is very rare to find. This is due to these pieces being made for reservation and personal use before the tourist trade became popular. Very few pieces were made and even less survived to today. The Navajo Nation sits on 27,000 square miles within the states of Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. The Navajo have a rich history and culture and have become known for creating some of the finest sterling silver and turquoise jewelry, incorporating their own traditional motifs with silversmithing. The squash blossom necklace is perhaps one the most famous Navajo styles produced, along with turquoise inlay rings. Turquoise is an important stone in Navajo culture; symbolizing happiness, good fortune, and good health. The first Navajo silversmith, Atsidi Sani, was taught around 1865 by a Mexican silversmith. Atsidi Sani, in turn, taught his four sons, who then started teaching other Navajo artisans. In the beginning, Navajo artisans created sterling silver jewelry for themselves and others in the Navajo Nation. The concept of Pawn, Old Pawn, and Dead Pawn Native American Jewelry came to be in the 1800s. When a loan wasn’t repaid, the item became known as either “Old Pawn” or Dead Pawn. Turquoise is found all over the world and has been a popular semi-precious stone used in jewelry and art for thousands of years by many different cultures; from prehistoric times to the present. Turquoise comes in many beautiful color variations; from the popular bright solid sky-blue hues to dark blue hues with dark spiderwebbing throughout, as well as aqua, teal, and many green varieties, and even some rare white with dark spiderwebbing. Native American Bisbee or Morenci turquoise sterling silver squash blossom bead necklace. This outstanding squash blossom necklace showcases a well-crafted naja pendant with 7 vibrant stones with little silver pyrite sprinkled throughout the matrices. Both mines are closed and both stones are highly sought after and collectable. The largest stone in this necklace is the main naja stone, about 1 1/8″ x 5/8″ bezel to bezel. The blossoms were distributed in graduated fashion, and they measure between 1 5/8″ to 1 1/4″. All stones are set in smooth bezels wrapped in thick twisted wire. This shiny necklace weighs a hefty 129.3 grams. The 1/4″ bead necklace is approximately 22 1/4″ long from hook to figure 8 connector, and the naja is 3″ tall by 2 3/4″ wide.
